Dive Data 2000 is a relational database where data are stored in different tables. There are tables for certifying agencies, branches, divers, dives, equipment, training etc. These tables form a hierarchy: Certifying Agencies, such as BSAC, have affiliated Branches that have members, who are Divers. Divers perform Dives, at Locations, using Equipment that is bought from Dive Shops that also perform Equipment Services. Divers also undertake Training and pay membership Subscriptions to the branch. Dive Data 2000 has places to store all of this information, and more.

Experience with version 1 of Dive Data has shown that different club officers and individuals use the program in different ways. Some store all branch records, others use it just for training or just for membership administration, some for the entire branch and some just for their own records.
