Customising DiveData

The Name, Address, Phone and Next of Kin information is fairly self-explanatory. The other panels are

Qualifications

Membership Number The Certifying Agency membership number. This must be unique as it is the key which is used to identify a database. Even if you have three "John Smith"s in the database they must all have different membership numbers.

More... Agencies often award numbers for qualifications or courses. For example, passing BSAC Instructor examinations result in a number starting CI, OWI, AI or NI.

Pressing the More... button causes a form to pop up in which the qualification and number are listed. There are no restrictions on the qualifications and numbers which can be entered for each diver.

The number is entered using the Reg. No. field when entering details of a Training lesson (q.v.).

Click anywhere on the Divers form to close the popup form.

Grade The qualification grade of the Diver. The Grades displayed are dependent on the certifying agency to which the branch is affiliated. The Non-diving/Social member grade covers those members who don’t dive.

Instructor The Instructor grade of the Diver. The Grades displayed are dependent on the certifying agency to which the branch is affiliated. Non instructors are left blank.

Committee Any committee post held by the Diver. The drop down list shows all of the different posts already in the database, but you can type in new titles if the role you seek is not in the list.

Notes Space for freeform notes relating to that Diver.

Dates

D.O.B. Date Of Birth. This is required in order to calculate when medicals are due, because the interval between medicals is dependent on age.

Try Dive Date of try dive. This is useful if you want to track the number of try dives you perform over a given period or want to send follow up letters to people who did try dives but didn’t join.

Medical Date of last medical. If the D.O.B. and the date of last medical are known then the date the next medical is due can be calculated. This calculation is performed each time the Diver record changes, and if the medical is due in the next month or overdue then the date is highlighted in the divers list. Dive Data 2000 uses the guidelines recommended by the UK certifying agencies which is every five years to age 40, then every three years to age 50 and thereafter annually.

Joining Date the Diver originally joined the branch. This is useful to track information such as the diver who has been a member for longest, or which people were on the same learn to dive course.
